How to treat Fingertip Injury

An acupuncturist's question on a Facebook group

About a week ago, I asked for advice on how to help a 3 year old boy who severed the tip of his finger, which occurred January 1st. He is coming in for the initial visit tomorrow. His MDs now say that the prognosis is poor, but the parents are wanting to try acupuncture and herbs to see if his finger can be saved.

Based on this information (sorry I don't have more to share), how could you approach this with acu and herbs? Should I send the parents home with a Moxa stick?

When a hobby-store owner in Cincinnati sliced off his fingertip in 2005 while showing a customer why the motor on his model plane was dangerous, he went to the emergency room without the missing tip. He couldn't find it anywhere. The doctor bandaged the wound and recommended a skin graft to cover the top of his right-middle stub for cosmetic purposes, since nothing could be done to rebuild the finger.
